What is Herbal Spirit Life?
Currently this is simply a site to express thoughts and share my journey while I am training. But why have I called it Herbal Spirit Life?
I'm aware that this collection of words sounds a little odd, (is it Herbal, Spirit Life, Herbal Spirit, Life or Herbal, Spirit, Life), however you say it , I feel that these three words encompass what I am trying to do with my life and what I would like to pass on to whoever reads this. I'm starting this initially as a blog mainly for myself but should anyone find's their way here I hope they find something interesting or useful. My ultimate goal is to help people understand their health and learn or explore ways to improve and heal themselves using herbs in relation to spirit to improve and heal their lives.
I am a student in my 2nd year of a 6 year program so my disclaimer is that anything found on these pages is not medical advice and not to replace your Drs advice but it is intended as a springboard for your own learning. One day I will be a qualified medical herbalist. But my vision is to incorporate other types of healing and to use the herbs as more than just as their chemical components reacting with our immune system, digestive system, nervous system etc.
I'm also not claiming that my thoughts on this site are original, unique or even necessarily deep. These are simply my thoughts on a page so that I can try to understand them clearer and hopefully along the way help a person or two. I am being inspired by a huge history of people. A collection of teachers that are presently in my life but also the hundreds of people that came before and explored all healing practices.
Herbal
It's not news that herbs can heal. They contain natural chemical components, secondary metabolites, that are of use to the plant that makes them, by way of affecting their scent or taste to deter being eaten by bugs and animals, to help it manage infection and infestation, or to help the plant heal, amongst other things. These components also have an effect on us. They cause our bodies to become more moist, dry, hot or cool. They encourage healing and help us to eliminate toxins and if used incorrectly some can poison us.
We know through science that the chemical components are effective but long before we understood the science behind the medicine there was evidence of their effect simply in how we saw people react.
We also know, from Dr Masaru Emoto, that when we talk to water, focusing either negative or positive words and energy the molecular structure of the water is changed. We are mostly water, as is our environment and the plants around us, so to me it goes without saying that how we treat our herbs will have an affect on how they treat us. The connections we make with the herbs are like relationships, you get what you give!
Spirit
Now here's where I may lose some people (If any one is reading ). I believe everything contains spirit, whether it be organic spirit such as in humans, animals, plants and crystals or spiritual residue in man made objects, homes & jewelry etc.
Humans are impacted by the spirit around us, of all kinds, all the time and I feel that we can tap into these spirits or shut it off and protect ourselves from it if we choose to, however most of us go through life blindly letting different elements of energy impact our mood, our health and energy.
As part of this I’m hoping to learn more about spirit and how to interact with different forms of spirit. To learn to connect with earth, air, fire and water, planetary spirit, various herbs and whatever else feels like a balancing and healing form of spirit.
Life
Within my time studying so far I have been learning much more than about the herbs themselves. I am learning so much about myself, as a patient, as a practitioner, as a middle aged woman, with dyslexia, undiagnosed ADHD possible ASD, an inferiority complex (mixed in with a strong belief that I can do anything I put my mind to - I know just a little contradictory). I’m a wife and a mother, I have a job, I work hard and am passionate about too many things to keep up with.
This may just be my next hyperfocus but if it is, if I can keep this focus for long enough I hope to be able to improve my life and learn how to help others improve theirs.
So, if anyone is reading this, future blogs could be on anything related to any of these areas. I intend to write about a range of herbs and their effects on us and ours on them, possible exercises to help me or others connect more to the herbs and to spirit, also on spiritual practices that I come across that I try to integrate in my life and of course about life philosophies as well as random thoughts in general.
I am kind of excited to see where this goes!
